Sept 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka's ruling party SLFP (Sri Lanka Freedom Party) commemorates its 57th anniversary today with religious ceremonies.
The main ceremony will be held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Kelaniya Buddhist Temple. Hindu, Christian and Islam religious functions also will be held today.
SLFP branches island wide will have organized religious functions including light offerings, processions etc. The Party prepares to pay tribute to the war heroes during these religious functions.
SLFP was founded by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga’s father S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike in 1951. It first came to power in 1956 and since then it has been the predominant party in government of Sri Lanka.
