* Stock market declines with less foreign investor participation

September 02, Colombo: The indices soared further to close the day on negative territory. All Share Price Index (ASPI) crawled down by 7.84 points (0.33%) to end at 2400.34 while the more sensitive Milanka Price Index (MPI) declined by a significant 15.38 points (0.55%) to settle at 2769.29.

Turnover for the day stood at Rs.191.34Mn. A total of 2 crossings were registered today. Telecom giant SLTL experienced a large scale deal with 690,000 shares having changed hands at Rs.46.00. This counter also topped the turnover list with Rs.40.25Mn and signed off for the day at Rs.46.00. Associated Motorways PLC (AMW) too marked a crossing after a block of 78,126 shares were traded at Rs.174.50. The counter saw the end of the day at Rs.174.50. Sierra Cables Ltd. (SIRA) was the investors’ pick of the day with 3.76Mn shares. The counter closed at Rs.1.90.

Other heavily traded counters included Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLTL), Valibel Power Erathna PLC (VPEL) and John Keells Hotels PLC (KHL) with 0.87Mn, 0.69Mn and 0.48Mn shares respectively. Next in line turnover wise were AMW, Bogala Graphite Lanka PLC (BOGA) and SIRA with Rs.20.23Mn, Rs.11.09Mn and Rs.7.15mn respectively. Price losers outnumbered price gainers numbering 69 to 51. Foreign focus shifted today with a tilt towards the selling side resulting in a net outflow of Rs.21.09Mn.
