* Suicide attack in Sri Lanka targets key minister, seven injured

Oct 09, Colombo: A suspected Tamil Tiger suicide attack at the Boralesgamuwa junction about 12 kilo meters away from capital Colombo this afternoon targeted the Minister of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services, Maithripala Sirisena, the military said.

According to Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, a female suicide bomber has targeted the Minister's vehicle convoy returning from today's launch of the paddy cultivation ceremony held in Bandaragama, but have missed the target only injuring the Minister.

Seven people were injured in the attack including the deputy Minister Siripala Gamlath. Five of the injured have been admitted to Kalubowila General Hospital and 2 others to the Colombo General Hospital. One admitted to Kalubowila Hospital has succumbed to his injuries.

The injured at Kalubowila Hospital were listed as H.S Kumarasingha of Polonnaruwa, A. Sanjeewa of Matugama, Udaya Wijeratna of Piliyandala, Weerasingha of Bokundara and Wimalaseana of Boralesgamuwa.
