* Sri Lanka Supreme Court orderd to retire all state employees exceeding 60 years of age

Oct 07, Colombo: Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has ordered the Solicitor General, C.R. De Silva to cancel the Government Gazette notification issued on September 11, 2008 extending the retiring age of state sector employees.

With this Gazette notice being canceled with immediate effect all state employees who received an extension in their service will have to retire immediately.

When Solicitor General requested the Supreme Court for two weeks in canceling the Gazette notification issued on September 11, 2008, Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva reported to have held that two weeks cannot be given and it should happen with immediate effect.

According to sources, Solicitor General C.R. De Silva also received an extension with this canceled Gazette notification coming into effect last month. However, with the Supreme Court order he will be forced to retire today.
