Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 13:49 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 07, Colombo: Breakaway rebel leader and the founder of Tamil political party Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) party Vinayagamoorthi Muralidaran, alias Karuna Amman called on Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this evening after he was sworn in today as a national list MP in the parliament.

Karuna left the terror group LTTE in 2003 and formed TMVP in 2004. His assistance was crucial in liberating the Eastern Region from Tiger control. Karuna taking oath as a legislator today is a remarkable political achievement for the Tamil community, political observers say. President's Advisor and MP Basil Rajapaksa is also present.
