October 07, Colombo: Yesterday’s mixed sentiments turned into negative sentiments today with both indexes recording considerable losses. All Share Price Index (ASPI) plunged by 48.01 points (2.23%) to close at 2107.18 while the more liquid Milanka Price Index (MPI) shed off a sensitive 75.97 points (3.14%) to end at 2342.73.

An improved turnover of Rs.248.18Mn was seen today. Associated Motorways PLC (AMW) registered two crossings today with a collective parcel of 696,582 shares changing hands at Rs.174.50. The counter also made the highest contribution to turnover with a value of Rs.127.49Mn. The stock ended the day at Rs.174.50.

The most active counter volume wise was Maskeliya Plantations PLC (MASK) with 0.93Mn shares. The share closed at Rs.28.75. Next in line volume wise were AMW, Richerd Pieris and Company PLC (RICH) and Valibel Power Erathna PLC (VPEL) with 0.73Mn, 0.54Mn and 0.46Mn shares respectively. Significant contributions to turnover were also made by MASK, RICH and John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) with Rs.29.36Mn, Rs.26.31Mn and Rs.9.09MN respectively. Price losers outdid price gainers by a massive 123 to a mere 12. Foreign interest was cast heavily on the purchasing side resulting in a net inflow of Rs.120.54Mn.
