* Sri Lanka Army calls for Tamil rebels to surrender
Monday, October 6, 2008, 4:51 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka announced that the cadres of the Tamil rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) can surrender at any place Army is positioned.

He has called upon all ordinary LTTE cadres to lay down their arms and cross over to the liberated areas.

The Army Commander stated that those who surrender would be rehabilitated except Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman who were wanted by states of India and Sri Lanka.

"It is the best time for the LTTEers to surrender. Arrangements are being made for them to be rehabilitated," he said.

The Army Commander issued this plea to surrender as the state security forces were engaged in fierce fighting near Kilinochchi, the heart of the rebel held territory.

The Army has also declared two no-war zones to facilitate the civilians in rebel-held territory to migrate into state controlled areas.
