* Update: Suicide bomb attack in Sri Lanka kills Maj. General Janaka Perera

Oct 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka Military says a suspected Tamil Tiger suicide bomb attack inside the United National Party (UNP) office near the Old Bus Stand in Anuradhapura this morning killed 22 people including the UNP North Central Province Provincial Council Member, Maj. General Janaka Perera and his wife.

The bomb blast occurred around 8:45 a.m. during a function held to declare open the new UNP office in Anuradhapura, military sources said. Among the dead were also the UNP Manager in Anuradhapura, Dr John Pulle and his wife.

According to sources, Mrs. Wajira Perera, wife of Maj. General Janaka Perera is also a retired Major in Sri Lanka Special Forces.

According to Military spokesperson, Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara Maj. General Janaka Perera and twenty other UNP members were present at the location to open the new party office when the bomb blast occurred.

More than 35 sustained injuries in the attack. All injured have been admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital.
