Oct 06, Colombo: Government of Japan today provided US $ 185,071 to JEN, a Japanese humanitarian organization under the NGO Grant Aid Scheme to support the livelihood of returnees in the Kiran Divisional Secretariat area in the Batticaloa District.
The objective of the project is to assist the returnee's resettlement through supporting their self-reliant livelihood both economically and psychosocially.
The project will provide livelihood rehabilitation and psychosocial support from October 2008 to August 2009.
The livelihood rehabilitation support includes 3 activities; 1) agriculture livelihood support, 2) in-land fishery livelihood support, and 3) home gardening. It will provide seeds for cultivation, agriculture tools, technical training, canoes and fishing nets.
Under this project the fisheries cooperative society will be further strengthened through capacity building workshops.
The psychosocial support provides conflict affected persons with individual and group/mass counseling conducted by competent psychologists and social workers. Moreover, children's emotional needs are also taken care of through recreation activities. The psychologists and social workers will monitor the children and provide counseling, when necessary.
