Oct 05, Colombo: The strike launched by the Locomotive Operators Association and the Railway Guards Association continued for a second day today without reaching a settlement with the Sri Lanka Railway authorities.
According to Railway Superintendent Wijeya Samarasinghe, the Sri Lanka Railway has managed to operate 36 trains only on the coast line and Kelaniweli railway tracks with difficulty.
Authorities fear the ongoing strike will cripple the nation’s economy with the work week starting tomorrow, as a considerable percentage of the workforce in Sri Lanka uses the national railway to report for work.
