Oct 03, Colombo: Cabinet approval was granted today to issue identity cards with international recognition for deep sea fishermen.

With today’s necessary approval, the Fisheries Ministry is planning a database containing details of fishermen in Sri Lanka and will generate identity cards with electronic access and information retrieval when required by authorities.

According to sources, almost 250,000 Sri Lankans are involved in sea fishing.
