Oct 03, Colombo: The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka today issued an injunction taking into consideration a fundamental right violation petition filed by a Buddhist monk, preventing the Government from subsidizing the electricity bills of religious places.
The Supreme Court held that if the said subsidizing is allowed, the Ceylon Electricity Board will abuse the proposed subsidy of Rs. 395 million. It also held that all religious institutions which use more than 600 units should not be given such subsidies.
