Oct 29, Colombo: Sri Lankan government today suspended all operations of the Colombo Municipal Council alleged for corruption and fraud.
The Colombo Municipal Council which was established on June 02, 2006 with a Government Gazette notification 1447/36 and was reported to be the most corruptive Government institution operated in the Colombo city with all scale of fraudulent activities taking place.
Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray said: “The City Commissioner will be looking after the operations of the Colombo Municipal Council which will continue to provide its services as it used to be.”
A retired Supreme Court Judge, Hector Senarath Yapa is appointed to conduct an independent inquiry into all allegations resulting to frauds and corruption and to bring the wrong doers into the limelight, the Chief Minister added.
