* Sri Lankan troops capture LTTE rebel town in Northwest

Oct 29, Colombo: Sri Lankan troops today took hold of a key LTTE controlled town in the northwest in a multi-pronged offensive aimed at capturing Nachchikudha in Kilinochchi district, the military said.

Defense reports said following days of heavy battles, advancing troops of Task Force One facing stiff resistance from the Tiger rebels gained total control over the rebel stronghold of Jayapuram.

Jayapuram is located 6 km northeast of Nachchikudha and east of the Mannar – Pooneryn A32 main road.

Troops are now consolidating operations in the area.
