Oct 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka government today said that it is taking urgent steps to implement procedures recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) over the melamine found in some food products.
The government has instructed the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to test all milk products being sold in the market to test whether they are suitable for human consumption.
Sri Lankan health authorities say 22 out of the 92 milk products samples sent to the A.L.S. Laboratory in Singapore have been cleared of melamine contamination and they are waiting for the results of the rest.
The government says that it has already published the names of banned items.
Sri Lankan Supreme Court yesterday ordered the Health and Nutrition Ministry to carry out more scientific tests to analyze the melamine content in high nutrition milk foods in the local market.
