* Foreign Ministry confirms of Sri Lankans sentenced to be beheaded in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Oct 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry has confirmed the names of the three Sri Lankans sentenced to be beheaded by a court in Jeddha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

K.A.P. Gayan Uditha Nanayakkara, Thushara Dinesh Perera alias Isaac Christy Vedamanikkam and W.M. Nilantha Bandara Tennakoon have been sentenced to death

All are being found guilty for the robbery and murder of a Yemeni national, Omar Yeslam in May 2007.

Three other Sri Lankans P.R.M. Ranjith Wasantha Kumara, Ms. Noora Mohamed and Ms. Rajiya Abdul Samad have been sentenced to 10 years, 4 years and 2 years imprisonment respectively as well as lashing for the same crime.

The Sri Lankan Consulate General in Jeddah has been providing consular assistance to the above Sri Lankans from the time of their arrest through their Court trial, and would facilitate the appeals against the death sentences on the three Sri Lankans, the Foreign Ministry said.
