Oct 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka opposition United National Party (UNP) Colombo district MP and the party's international affairs secretary Ravi Karunanayaka yesterday charged in the parliament that the government has granted an unethical appointment to the husband of World Bank Country Director Naoko Ishii.
According to MP Karunanayaka the husband of World Bank Country Director now works as an adviser to the Securities and Exchange Commission for a salary of 150,000 rupees per month.
The issue was raised as the MP moved a parliament adjournment proposal alleging that the Central Bank had not committed its tasks in financial regulation.
Deputy Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya made the reply speech but did not mention about the aforesaid appointment.
Ms. Ishii has been the World Bank Country Director for Sri Lanka since July 2006.
