* Explosives and batteries found in Wanni bound food trucks in Sri Lanka

Oct 01, Vavuniya: Sri Lankan Army personnel in Vavuniya last night have found C-4 explosives and batteries hidden in two lorries carrying food items for the displaced people in Wanni.

Sri Lanka military said during a search conducted at the Omanthai entry/exit point in Vavuniya troops found 2.5 kilo grams of C-4 explosives hidden under the driver's seat of one truck and 28,880 batteries hidden in a false compartment of another truck. Batteries are an embargoed item in the North.

According to military, a total of 60 lorries are expected to cross the entry point by tomorrow evening (Oct 2) carrying essential food items to displaced in Wanni. Vavuniya District Secretariat has hired 30 lorries, while WFP have hired the rest.

Police has taken the lorry drivers into custody for further investigation.
