* Ceylon Electricity Board trade unions express reservations regarding new electricity act

Oct 10, Colombo: The General Secretary of Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Joint Trade Union Federation Ranjan Jayalal says that the union is supporting to amend the No: 28, 2002 electricity amendment Act but opposing to amend the 1950 electricity act.

He says that amending 1950 electricity act will lead the CEB to lose the monopoly of generation and distribution of electricity and the act can lead to the privatization of the CEB.

Addressing a special media briefing held in this regard, Jayalal said that the trade unions would discuss the new electricity act with the Minister of Power and Energy on October 15.
