Nov 05, Colombo: Food Suppliers to Sri Lankan hospitals have stopped providing food supplies to the Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Badulla, and Ratnapura general hospitals as the respective hospital managements have failed to pay the dues.
With suppliers discontinuing the food supplies, the hospital authorities have directed purchasing food from the hospital canteens for the admitted patients.
According to sources, Anuradhapura Hospital owes an amount reaching Rs. 8 million for the last three months.
Trade Unions intervening in the problem have reportedly informed the Health Ministry Secretary that unless immediate steps are taken to settle the dues to the respective suppliers, they will lead an island wide stoppage of food supplied by other suppliers to the hospitals.
