Nov 30, Colombo: Sri Lankan government will send another food convoy to the civilians in the un-cleared areas of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, Essential Services Commissioner S.B. Divaratne said.
The government plans to send a total of 1,500 metric tons of essential within this week to the IDPs in the un-cleared areas. About 60 trucks carrying 700 metric tons of the food items will be dispatched from the Vavuniya warehouse complex tomorrow morning.
Divaratne said Vavuniya Government Agent P.S.N. Charles will be in charge of the process while Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu GAs will take charge of receiving the stocks and distributing of them.
The UN agency World Food Programme plans to send several more truckloads carrying 350 metric tons of dry rations by next Wednesday. Another 20 trucks carrying 200 metric tons of essential food donated by various organizations will also be dispatched to un-cleared areas on Tuesday, the Essential Services Commissioner said.
Humanitarian agency sources say adequate food supplies are reaching the displaced in the un-cleared areas. However with the hostile weather in the area sheltering the displaced has become a problem.
