Nov 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka Army is to have a court martial against a Major General for the first time in its history, Army sources say.
The court martial will take place on December 04, 05 and 08 to examine the charges against Major General Parakrama Pannipitiya.
The accused officer faces a number of charges including misuse of power and resources and disciplinary flaws. He risks his career and can be sentenced too if penalized.
Pannipitiya was the Sri Lanka Army’s Eastern Commanding Officer responsible for capturing Thoppigala and other areas last year.
The court martial is chaired by Major General V.R. de Silva.
