Nov 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka President's office anticipates a meeting between the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe this week.
The two leaders are to have discussions on the 17th amendment to the constitution and a number of other matters such as the security situation in the country.
The 17th amendment to the constitution has necessitated the President and the Opposition Leader in dialogue pertaining to the appointment of due independent commissions.
The two leaders met in recent months and agreed to carry on the dialogue.
The 17th Amendment to the 1978 Constitution offers a provision to establish independent commissions to administer the Police, Judiciary, Public Service and Elections.
