* Troops capture LTTE town of Otiyamalai in Northern Sri Lanka
Saturday, November 29, 2008, 14:20 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 29, Colombo: After days of fierce fighting facing heavy resistance from LTTE, Sri Lankan troops advancing in the northeast have entered another town held by the LTTE this afternoon, the military said.

Troops of the 59 Division have entered Otiyamalai located southwest of Tannimurippukulam in the Mullaitivu district.

Defence reports said troops of the 14th Sinha Regiment(SR) and the 12th Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) have broken the LTTE defences and entered the area, forcing the rebels to flee with heavy casualties.

Defence sources said troops are now consolidating their positions and carrying out mop-up operations in the area.

The military says with the capture of Otiyamalai the other LTTE garrisons at Nedukerni, Nainamadu and Oddusudan will also fall soon.
