Nov 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered a special security network to cover the tourist hotels in the capital Colombo and its suburbs, the government announced.
According to the government Information Department, the President has given this order during a special discussion the hotel owners and government officials had yesterday evening at Temple Trees. Hoteliers have raised concerns following the terror attacks on Mumbai hotels.
Authorities have appointed a committee headed by a retired DIG to coordinate security arrangements under the Defence Ministry's supervision while the Tourism Ministry will be in charge of the overall arrangement.
Separate security arrangements will also be placed around the hotels by the Police and Army in cooperation with the hotel security personnel.
