Nov 28, Batticaloa: A Non Governmental Organization staff member was shot dead by unidentified persons in Batticaloa last night.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said that the victim identified as A. Vigneswaran (28) worked for the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Batticaloa.

According to the media statement issued by the NRC Vigneswaran was shot dead at a place near his house after the gunmen took him away forcibly.

The victim had worked as a construction-supervisor with this NGO for the past two years.

Batticaloa police are conducting further investigations.
