Nov 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, while vowing to fight on and evict government forces from their 'land', said his organization wants to stop the war and seek a peaceful resolution to the national question of the Tamil people.
“We will continue with our struggle until alien Sinhala occupation of our land is evicted,” Prabhakaran said in his annual speech today from an undisclosed location.
“Whatever challenges confront us, whatever contingencies we encounter, whatever forces stand on our path, we will still continue with our struggle for the freedom of the Tamil people. On the path shown by history, on the command of the circumstances of today, we will continue with our struggle till alien Sinhala occupation of our land is removed,” he said.
He also said that the LTTE never saw India as an enemy. “At no stage did we ever consider India as an enemy force. Our people always consider India as our friend. They have great expectations that the Indian super power will take a positive stand on our national question,” he said.
Prabhakaran also urged the Tamil people living outside the country to contribute to his movement to “strengthen the hands of our freedom movement and continue to extend their contributions and help.”
