* Lashing rains hit Eastern Sri Lanka

Nov 25, Trincomalee: Heavy rains lashed most parts of Sri Lanka displacing a large number of people in the Eastern province.

Disaster Management Center of Sri Lanka said that there were no displaced persons reported in any part of the country except the Eastern Province. According to the sources in the East most number of displaced persons was reported from Trincomalee district.

DMC said 170 families from Kinniya , 72 families from Sumedhagama, 21 families from Arippu in Mahaweligama have been displaced in Trincomalee while 40 families from Azad town in Ampara also being reported.

Meteorology Department of Sri Lankan said that they expect more thunder showers in the northern part of the country within the next two days.

The DMC urged the fishermen to avoid fishing in the seas as gusting winds are expected over the seas.
