* Doctors in hospitals of North and East Sri Lanka boycott work
Saturday, November 22, 2008, 5:11 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) says that the Sinhala and Tamil doctors employed in the hospitals in the North and East will engage only in treating injured soldiers.

They have expressed wish to work in Anuradhapura, Palali and Colombo military hospitals.

The General Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Upul Gunasekara said that the doctors would not report for duty in the hospitals under threat. However, he said that the move would not amount to vacation of posts and they would report to duty as soon as the security is provided.

The central committee of the GMOA is to meet tomorrow to discuss the issue and to come to decisions.
