* Sri Lanka local rubber market collapsed, say small holders

Nov 21, Colombo: Sri Lankan rubber small holders complain they have lost livelihood due to the poor demand for rubber.

The rubber small holders say that the price of a kilo of rubber has dropped from Rs. 350 few months back to Rs. 150 today.

The price for 'ottapalu' the cut remains have also gone down from Rs. 200 per kilo to Rs. 30 now, they point out.

There are around 163,151 acres of state owned rubber lands and 124,664 acres of private rubber cultivations. Around 500,000 are engaged directly or indirectly in the rubber industry in Sri Lanka.
