Nov 21, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has decided to increase the custom duty for imported petrol.
Accordingly, the custom duty per liter of petrol has been increased by Rs. 10 from a current value of Rs. 25 to Rs. 35, a Treasury spokesman said.
The aim of this move is to levy a portion of the massive profit the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation earns due to the decline of fuel prices in the international markets, government sources say.
