Sri Lanka::
* ICRC officials absent for the second time at the checkpoint in Northern Sri Lanka
Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 5:02 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 19, Vavuniya: Day to day activities in Omanthai entry and exit checkpoint came to a halt yesterday for the second time within a few days due to the absence of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) officials.

Spokesperson for the ICRC Sarasi Wijeratna said that the reason for this absence was the LTTE cadres were not honoring the security guarantee yesterday.

Following the last week clashes near the checkpoint the ICRC seeks security guarantee each day from both parties prior to opening the exit and entry point.

Due to the absence of the ICRC officials 16 trucks carrying essential food items to the displaced people in Wanni had to return to Vavuniya last evening.

Security forces hope to deliver the truckloads this morning after discussing with the ICRC officials.
