Nov 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) charged that despite the existence of three ministers, several deputy ministers and a number of institutions on the field, no measures have been initiated to address the grievances of the 450,000 strong cadre of tea small holders.
Addressing a media briefing today, UNP media unit Chief MP Lakshman Kiriella said the government should use the cess levy to grant a monthly allowance for grieved tea small holders.
He said that rubber small holders are facing the same fate.
The MP charged the government for using the funds levied through the cess on tea exports to cover the state expenses.
