Nov 19, Colombo: Hospital workers in Sri Lanka have organized protest campaigns today against the killing of Medical Superintendent of the Vavunathivu Hospital in Batticaloa last Sunday night.
The main protest campaign was held in Mahiyangana Hospital premises where the slain doctor, Dr. Palitha Pathmakumara (35) worked before he was transferred to the Vavunathivu Hospital.
Another protest campaign was held at the Vavuniya Hospital. All the Sinhala staff of the Vavuniya Hospital has decided to withdraw from the daily medical activities due to lack of security.
Meanwhile the funeral of the murdered doctor Pathmakumara was held this evening at Kotmale, where he lived with his family.
The government taking measures to tighten the security for the doctors serving in the North and East yesterday appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ananda Wijesinghe with immediate effect to coordinate security to the area hospitals and the universities.
