Nov 19, Colombo: Another group of Sri Lankans who worked in Saudi Arabia arrived in the country this morning after facing many difficulties at their work places in the Kingdom.
According to sources at Katunayake Bandaranayke International Airport, a group of 103 Sri Lankan housemaids arrived by a special flight from Jeddah early this morning.
These Sri Lankans have faced much harassment at their working places and they were settled in refugee camps in Saudi Arabia for the past few months.
Foreign Employment Bureau officials said those workers will be sent to their villages after granting sufficient funds.
Housemaids employed in Middle Eastern countries face harassment, rape, abuse, assault and non-payment of wages at the hands of their employers.
The government is contemplating a ban on Sri Lankan women working as housemaids overseas due to the social problems their families face as young children are left behind.
