* The Brotherhood Train collects aids for soldiers and IDPs in Sri Lanka

Nov 17, Colombo: Manel Mal Movement (Movement of Water Lilies) of Sri Lanka has organized a Brotherhood Train to run from Matara to Medawachchiya on November 22 to collect aids with the hope of helping internally displaced Tamil people and the security forces in operation in northern Sri Lanka.

The train is scheduled to commence its journey from Matara at 6:55 a.m. on the morning of 22nd November 2008. It will stop at Galle, Ambalangoda, Kalutara South and Moratuwa before reaching Colombo Fort at 1:30 p.m.

The train will remain overnight at the Fort Railway Station and will commence the next leg of its journey from Colombo Fort at 10:40 a.m. on 23rd November 2008. The train will stop at Gampaha, Veyangoda, Polgahawela, Kurunegala, Mahawa and Anuradhapura before reaching its final destination of Medawatchchiya at 6:30 p.m.

Public can donate items for the use of the soldiers and the internally displaced persons. Collection centers have already been established in those towns mentioned above for the public to hand over their donations. A collecting center will also be established in front of the Fort Railway Station from 17th November 2008.

The goods transported by the Train of Brotherhood will be handed over to the Army at Medawatchchiya . The items collected for the internally displaced Tamil people will be distributed in camps where they are now accommodated.

The items that will be collected for the internally displaced Tamil people are rice, flour, coconut, dried fish and sprats, canned fish, milk powder, mats and pillows, mosquito nets, soap and toothpaste, exercise books, pens and pencils.

The items that will be collected for the Security Forces are biscuits, chocolates and toffees, bottles of mineral water, small bottles of ghee for application to prevent foot rot underwear, shaving razors, soap and toothpaste, Mospel, Siddhalepa, Panadol, Disprin, Micogel and thick rolls of black polythene.
