Nov 17, Colombo: The doctors of Batticaloa district of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka are on strike since this morning seeking protection for them after an unidentified gunman killed a doctor last night.

A suspected LTTE gunman shot dead an ethnic Sinhalese doctor who was on duty at Navakkadu hospital in Batticaloa district around 9:30 p.m. yesterday.

Another person, an ethnic Tamil was also killed by the assailants together with the doctor.

Batticaloa police is conducting investigations.
