Nov 14, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has decided to establish two new tsunami warning centers in the country.
Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said the new centers will be established with the assistance of the German government.
The locations of the new tsunami warning centers are not decided yet. According to the Minister a final decision on the locations will be taken after considering the expert opinion.
There are some tsunami warning centers currently functioning in the country. However, the government plans to increase the number of those centers following the 2004 tsunami tragedy which destroyed the country’s coastal line severely.
