Thursday, November 13, 2008, 6:49 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 13, Colombo: All Ceylon Health Services Union (ACHSU) General Secretary Gamini Kumarasinghe charged that while the government has allocated 6 billion rupees for 'Mihin Lanka', only 5 billion rupees has been allocated for the entire health sector of the country.

He said the health sector of the country is confronted with a serious financial crisis and supply of medicine and food in hospitals has collapsed. He stated that the budgetary allocation for health services is not enough even to pay the arrears in the health sector.

Recently, the patients of Anuradhapura hospital had to remain in hunger as a result of financial crisis regarding food supplies.
