Nov 12, Kandy: Kandy General Hospital, one of the main hospitals in Sri Lanka is facing severe problems due to lack of funds to run day-to-day activities.
Hospital sources say the electricity bill and the payments for food suppliers have risen over Rs. 50 million.
It is reported that hospital owes Rs. 35 million as dues to the Ceylon Electricity Board for the past few months. Due payment for the food suppliers had passed Rs. 15 million.
Sources say under these conditions the hospital is in danger of cutting down the essential services.
Kandy General Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Sri Lankan hill country where most estate workers get receive healthcare daily.
