Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 5:26 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka Civil Monitoring Commission chaired by Western People's Front (WPF) leader and MP Mano Ganesan says that it has decided to take up the issue of the inmates of Colombo, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee remand prisons who went on one day token hunger strike yesterday.

Issuing a statement Ganesan said that it is a peaceful agitation to seek legal redress in the forms of getting released on bail or getting their cases expedited.

Ganesan further said it has been observed that detentions are conducted without following proper legal processes. CMC has learned that over 1,000 inmates are being kept detained without proper trials and investigations under poor custodial conditions, he added.
