* Sri Lanka's government doctors in Central Province on strike
Friday, May 9, 2008, 3:18 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 09, Kandy: The Registered and Assistant Medical Officers Union in the Central Province called a strike yesterday to protest against a printing mistake on the annual report issued by the Health Service Office of the province. A total of 226 doctors from 256 government institutions are participating in this strike.

The trade union complained that its name was printed incorrectly in the said report. According to the health officials instead of RMO the union was mentioned as RMP. The striking doctors say that their strike will continue until the mistake is corrected.

Meanwhile, health officials blame the doctors for acting irresponsibly over a trivial matter. According to the officials, the doctors had not informed them about the mistake or about the strike action.
