Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 16:38 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights has established a hotline for family members to obtain clarifications on persons missing, abducted or arrested by the authorities.

The Ministry said that it has established this in order to have “a rapid response system to deal with requests for information/clarification from family members of persons who have taken into Police custody, are thought to have been taken into custody by other government authorities or are thought to have been abducted or disappeared.”

It also said that persons seeking information as to the arrest and detention of any relative may call telephone numbers 011 2676513 or 060 2119246. Bilingual operators will be able to take calls in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages.
