May 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka election Department announced that the campaigning for the Eastern Provincial Council Elections, scheduled to be held on May 10 will end at midnight on Wednesday (7th).
The polls in the Eastern Province which are being held for the first time in two decades since its liberation from the LTTE Tiger control are a success story for the government. Local government elections were held in the Batticaloa District In March.
Some 1,342 candidates will contest for 37 seats while nearly 990,000 voters in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee are to exercise their voting power.
