May 05, Vavuniya : Russian built MI 24 helicopter gun ships of Sri Lanka Air Force launched close ground support missions targeting Tamil Tigers in the general area of Vavuniya this evening, the Air Force sources said.

Air support was called in by troops engaged in counter terrorist operations on the Vavuniya battlefront, Air Force sources said.

According to the sources two sorties were carried out targeting Tamil Tiger gatherings in an area 1.5 km west of Palampiddi. The enemy casualties are yet to be verified, the sources added.
