* Duke of Gloucester visits Sri Lanka

May 04, Colombo: Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II arrived here today for a three day visit.

During his stay he is expected to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It was Prince Richard’s father Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, who attended the 1948 independence ceremony when the British handed over independence to Sri Lanka. Prince Richard, first cousin to the Queen, is the second son of Prince Henry.
