May 31, Colombo: A hand grenade explosion in a densely populated area in Wellawatta, a suburb of capital Colombo killed two people and injured nine others, officials said.

According to the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) the explosion took place near a bus stop along the Colombo-Galle main road, opposite the Arpico super market in Wellawatta.

The injured were rushed to the Kalubowila teaching hospital, police sources said.
