May 31, Colombo: At least three people have died and a large number of others have been displaced due to the heavy rains in most parts of Sri Lanka.

Flooding hit several areas of the country as a result of the heavy rain experienced since this morning and caused havoc as hundreds of people reportedly sought accommodations in schools and other public places in Galle, Ratnapura and Kalutara districts. Ratnapura district was the worst hit.

Meanwhile, the sluice gates of the kukuleganga reservoir were opened this morning following the torrential rains countrywide.
