May 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka is to ban the importation, distribution and usage of bulbs over 75 watts soon in order to save energy.

The Ministry of Power and Energy said that the proposal has been sent to the Legal Draftsman to prepare a regulation.

“The decision has been taken as a precaution to the current energy crisis, and it has been found out that 20% of power wastage was due to the usage of powerful bulbs,” a spokesman for the Ministry said.
