* Neil Rupasinghe to succeed Late MP Reggie Ranatunga

May 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s ruling party, UPFA member Neil Rupasinghe is rumored to fill the seat left behind by the death of Gampha district UPFA parliamentarian Reggie Ranatunga in the parliament.

However, there was no official announcement from the UPFA with regard to the new appointment.

MP Ranatunga passed away this morning at a private hospital after a brief illness. He Ranatunga was the fourth parliamentarian from the Gampaha district to die this year. UFPA MPs Sripathi Sooriyarachchi, Anura Bandaranaike and Jeyaraj Fernandopulle all died this year.

Neil Rupasinghe, a famous film director in Sri Lanka became a Member of Parliament in 1994 representing the Wattala constituency and later was appointed as a Deputy Minister.
